AECT Standard 3

Candidates facilitate learning by creating, using, evaluating, and managing effective learning environments.

Learning Environments

Artifact 1: Job Aid

S.3.1. Creating – Candidates create instructional design products based on learning
principles and research-based best practices.

This artifact was created during “EME6208: Distance Learning” taught by Dr. Sanghoon Park. The purpose of this assignment was to create an instructional design product while obtaining experience utilizing Adobe Photoshop, a commonly used tool among Instructional Designers and Graphic Designers.

This artifact provides evidence of Standard 3.1 because when designing this job-aid I considered multiple theories include the Principles of Design, Gestalt’s Principles, and various learning theories to simplify the cognitive load in a sleek design.

Through the creation of this artifact, I learned to identify relevant resources, constraints, and context of the development and delivery environments; and develop media materials that are linked to and within the hardware/software constraints are consistent across and between lessons, and clearly communicate information (Analysis and Technology Inc., 2018, Appendix B).

Artifact 2: ARCS Motivational Model

STANDARD 3.2 USING- Candidates make professional sound decisions in selecting appropriate processes and resources to provide optimal conditions for learning based on principles, theories, and effective practices.

This artifact was created during “EME6936: Online Teaching and Learning” taught by Dr. James Hatten. The purpose of this assignment was to creatively summarize the content being taught composing a multimedia presentation. I chose to create this instructional video using PowToon because it was a new tool to me and with the time restrictions of under three minutes, I felt it was the best tool to provide an engaging and supportive learning environment for the mass amount of content needing to be presented.

This artifact provides evidence of Standard 3.2 because within the given parameters, I had to research and emphasize the best learning principles and theories within a short amount of time. The strategic planning and use of graphic and text support emphasize the messages clearly.

Through the creation of this artifact, I learned how to identify relevant resources, constraints, and context of the development and delivery environments; identify how the course ware will be used in the curriculum; evaluate how the setting characteristics may impact proposed instructional approaches; and, state a rationale for the selection of the resources and constraints of the development and delivery environments chosen  (Analysis and Technology Inc., 2018, Appendix B)

Artifact 3: Information Architecture- Improving Learning/Performance

STANDARD 3.4 Managing – Candidates establish mechanisms for maintaining the technology infrastructure to improve learning and performance.

This artifact was created for “EME6207: Web Design” taught by Dr. James Hatten.  The purpose of the artifact was to demonstrate my abilities to analyze a website’s information architecture with a focus on content, audience, and context. I was expected to outline the structure of information presented on the website; analyze if the information is logically organized; if the most important information is featured for ease of access to the audience; and conduct an audience analysis.

The artifact provides evidence of Standard 3.4  because I had to apply my knowledge of information architecture, website design, user experience, etc. in order to fully assess the information architecture of a given website. In fact, I ended up using these skills for the redesign of a website through contract work, as well as to more deeply analyze the structure of my blog and E-Portfolio.

Through the creation of the artifact, I learned how to develop a needs assessment/analysis plan and instrument; evaluate candidate training system hardware and software capabilities and limitations; and, identify tasks, subtasks, cognitive processes and their sequential and/or hierarchical relationships  (Analysis and Technology Inc., 2018, Appendix B).
